From April 2027, Japan’s current “Technical Intern Training Program” will transition to the new “Employment for Skill Development Program (Ikusei Shuro).” Under the former system, Japanese language proficiency was not generally required (except for nursing care). However, under the new system, passing JLPT N5 or higher will be a mandatory requirement for all applicants.
Furthermore, the pathway from Technical Intern Training to Specified Skilled Worker (i) status will change. To transition to SSW (i), applicants must pass both the JLPT N4 (or JFT-Basic) and the relevant SSW (i) Evaluation Exam.
